Pac Heights Twenty Ten is one one of my seminal still life paintings. I wanted to make a Baroque still life about living in San Francisco at that time. My aim was to emphasize the fetishization of the food culture via the play of light, and capturing various textures and giving the viewer an overabundance of objects to navigate. 2010 was also the year that plastic bags were outlawed in San Francisco, so I wanted to be sure to paint them in to mark the end of an era (at least there). There is still so much plastic here in the South (as of 2022).
